Can you get workers’ compensation for office injuries?

Many people only associate workers’ compensation claims with high-risk, physical jobs like construction workers. However, office workers can also suffer from work-place injuries. There are many common injuries in the work place and these employees are entitled to compensation from their employers, too.

If you work in a more traditional office space and suffered one of these, or another type of injury, you may be able to file a claim with your employer and receive compensation for your suffering.

Examples of office work injures

While office work place injuries may not seem common, there are many potential injuries people can face in a typical office including:

  • Falls, tripping or slip-and-falls
  • Carpal Tunnel
  • Injuries from lifting heavy objects
  • Back pain from improper workstation equipment

Perhaps one of the more common injuries office workers suffer from is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. People who sit at desks and work at computers for long hours are particularly susceptible to carpal tunnel. This injury is caused by repetitive movements in the hands or wrists. Typing and using a computer mouse are common causes of carpal tunnel. Symptoms of carpal tunnel include:

  • Numbness or tingling in the thumb or fingers
  • Loss of movement in fingers
  • Pain in hand, arm and/or shoulder
  • Weakness of grip

What can you do?

If you suffered an injury in your office workplace you can file a claim with your employer. Office workers are entitled to worker’s compensation. Carpal tunnel, in particular is covered by most workers’ compensation systems. You may receive compensation form medical bills and lost wages from your injuries.

If you are not sure how to proceed with your claim, you may want to talk to an attorney who can help you evaluate your situation and figure out your next steps. Office workers are just as susceptible to injury and just as deserving of compensation.
