Could fibro-brain help a person obtain SSDI benefits?

It is not uncommon for people suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome and/or fibromyalgia to experience cognitive issues. Commonly referred to as either fibro-brain or brain fog, cognitive issues could prove debilitating for those here in Mississippi and elsewhere who suffer from it. In fact, proving the existence of this condition to the Social Security Administration could help an individual to obtain SSDI benefits.

A severe case of fibro-brain could prevent a person from working. Some of the symptoms of this condition include forgetting words, the inability to focus on a conversation due to background noise and short-term memory problems, among other things. Many people exhibit difficulty multi-tasking, problems performing simple math or remembering numbers, difficulty discerning direction and problems with concentration.

Research remains ongoing into fibro-brain, but researchers have already drawn some conclusions. For instance, cognitive impairment related to chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia could be linked to impaired pain processing, a lower health-related quality of life, sensitization and amplified pain. It may not be surprising that individuals would experience cognitive issues while in substantial pain, but this condition tends to go beyond that. Other factors may also contribute to fibro-brain. The point is that severe cases are often debilitating.

Mississippi residents and other individuals who suffer from fibro-brain may not even be able to work due to this condition. It may be possible to obtain SSDI benefits based on a diagnosis of this condition, but as usual, it will be the responsibility of the sufferer to prove to the Social Security Administration that this condition exists, adversely affects an individual's daily life, including the ability to work. The proper documentation and arguments could result in he or she receiving much needed benefits.
