3 children fatally injured due to another drive's negligence

Protecting their children is the number one priority for most Mississippi parents. In fact, parents often drive more carefully when their kids are in the car. The problem is that they cannot account for the driving habits of other motorists that could lead to their children being injured due to another driver's negligence.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol recently responded to a scene involving an 18-wheeler and a passenger vehicle. Both were traveling northbound on Interstate 55 at the time of the crash. The passenger vehicle had a mechanical issue, so it was traveling at less than 70 mph when the big rig slammed into the back of it. During the impact, the passenger car hit the guardrail with enough force to make this a fatal accident.

The victims who lost their lives were children ages 8. 6 and 1. A 6-month-old girl lived through the accident. Emergency medical personnel transported the baby to University of Mississippi Medical Center. The two adults in the vehicle also survived, along with the 48-year-old driver of the 18-wheeler. At last report, the crash remained under investigation, so it could be some time before it is known whether the truck driver will face any criminal charges in connection with the crash.

Even if he does not face criminal repercussions for this crash, the families of the children may still pursue restitution for their losses through the filing of wrongful death claims. People who are injured due to another driver's negligence may receive an award of damages to cover the financial and other losses that accompany serious accidents. To increase the chances of successfully receiving restitution, it would help to work with an experienced attorney.
