Child fatally injured in Mississippi car accident

Certain events tend to mark the holiday season for families. Sadly, for one Mississippi family, that event will be the death of a 7-year-old child. As the month of December began, the child was fatally injured in a car accident.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to the crash on Highway 18 that involved five vehicles. Preliminary reports indicate the crash began when a westbound 18-wheeler entered the eastbound lanes and crashed into a pickup truck. The pickup truck then slammed into an SUV also in the westbound lanes. Two other vehicles headed eastbound were damaged by debris from the accident.

In addition to the child who died, three other people suffered unknown injuries in the crash for which they were transported to a hospital in the area. No reports of their current conditions was available at the time of this writing, except to say their injuries were not life threatening. The investigation into the crash remained open at last report.

No parent should outlive a child, and now, the holiday season will always serve as a reminder of his loss. The family will never see what he would have become had he been allowed a future. While there is nothing that can change that, the family may receive some justice through the filing of a wrongful death claim against those deemed responsible.

The results of the investigation could help provide sufficient evidence to prove to the court who caused the crash. If negligence is established, the court could award damages to help with the financial losses that often accumulate when someone is fatally injured in a car accident. Considering the fact that a truck driver was involved, more than one person could bear some legal liability in connection with this tragedy.
