Nail guns are useful, but can cause serious work-related injuries

Like other construction workers around the country, those here in Mississippi can take advantage of a lot of equipment to help make their jobs faster and more efficient. One of those pieces of equipment is the nail gun. While this device can be a lifesaver, it can also be the cause of serious work-related injuries.

Research indicates that somewhere around 37,000 injuries each year result from nail guns. They can unintentionally discharge due to double fire or hitting the safety contact while squeezing the trigger. A nail could ricochet off a metal feature or a hard surface or go through a piece of lumber.

Users could attempt to use the nail gun in awkward positions or miss. If a user fails to adhere to safety rules or mechanisms, injuries could happen. It may seem like using a nail gun would only take common sense, but proper training is required in order to use it correctly and to avoid the potential for injuries. Construction workers should also wear the appropriate personal protection equipment to hep them remain safe.

When employers and employees adhere to safety protocols for all equipment, including nail guns, it helps limit the potential and number of work-related injuries. However, they do not guarantee that no one will get hurt. A Mississippi construction worker who ends up injured by a nail gun or any other piece of equipment on the job site may pursue workers' compensation benefits to help with medical and medical-related expenses, and lost income. Depending on the severity and nature of the injuries, other benefits may also be available.
